Karina BANFI

She is Program Coordinator for the Trust of the Americas, a foundation of the Organization of the American States (OAS), located in Washington DC. She develops activities aimed at Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. She is also the coordinator of the Regional Alliance for the Freedom of Expression and Access to Information. The alliance includes organization from the Americas.
Previously, she worked for the National Security Archives (NSA), in the Southern Cone Project, with declassified documents related to the last military dictatorship in Argentina. She also helped young immigrants to get legal representation in the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. In Argentina, her latest job was in the Investigation Unit of the Ministry of Justice about the terrorist attack against the AMIA (Jewish Mutual Help Association), doing research on declassified documents of the Argentinean government. She also was an advisor in a project of research and legislative drafting of a bill to protect whistle blowers and witnesses of corruption cases. The project was located in the Anti Corruption Office of Argentina, and financed by the World Bank.
