PCMLP is pleased to announce that during the First Annual IMLA Workshop the launch of the Monroe E. Price International Media Law Moot Court Competition will take place. The purpose of creating a moot competition linked to IMLA is to strengthen the interest in international media law and to build bridges between media law practitioners, academics and students worldwide. The 1st Edition of the Monroe E. Price International Media Law Moot Court Competition is set to begin in September 2007 with finals in Oxford in Easter 2008. During the Workshop IMLA members will be invited to give input into the design of the First International Moot. Download the Workshop Programme. The 5th Media Law Advocates Training ProgrammeUniversity of Oxford, from 9 - 28 July 2006 This intensive 3 week training programme in human rights and media law with a focus on litigation and advocacy skills is run by PCMLP in collaboration with the Open Society Justice Initiative and other organisations. The course is designed for lawyers from any country who are interested in deepening their understanding of the various regional and international human rights systems, focusing on the protection and promotion of the exercise of the rights to freedom of expression and information. The aim of this programme is to add value and to capacitate those who are trying to handle such issues day-to-day and whose work could benefit from additional skills and knowledge. Applicants should have a strong commitment to human rights, especially to media freedom, a law degree, and eligibility for legal practice in his/her country. Participants will be granted automatic membership of IMLA. Full information about the programme including details about fees, scholarships, and how to apply, can be found on PCMLP's website: IMLA Launching Event:Mark Stephens - Lecture on Freedom of Expression - May 19 2005 - LondonMark Stephens, of Finers Stephens Innocent and Associate of the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy, gave a lecture which focussed on recent trends in media litigation before regional tribunals in Europe and Africa. The lecture examined how regional case law can effect change at national level, as well as the potential impact of ECHR experience on newer regional human rights regimes.
